Unibased Systems Architecture Will Include Mediware's Bone and Tissue Tracking Capabilities as Part of Suite for Surgical Management

LENEXA, KS--(June 15, 2010) - Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MEDW) has announced a new distribution agreement with Unibased Systems Architecture (Unibased) providing Unibased the right to distribute Mediware's BiologiCare® software as a part of their proprietary product suite, ForSite2020®. BiologiCare helps healthcare organizations track bone, tissues, and other biologic substances used in surgery and patient therapies and offers Unibased customers a compelling solution for an area of care with increasing regulation and oversight.

"Operating room staff usually manage all the materials used in surgical procedures but have struggled to efficiently comply with complex tracking and compliance requirements revolving surrounding the use of bones, tendons and other biologics," said Thomas Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "Unibased has a significant base of surgery department customers, an excellent reputation for surgery management technologies, and their customers have already expressed a need for a solution like BiologiCare. Combined, we believe this is a channel relationship that could deliver important results for both our organizations and our customers."

BiologiCare was introduced to address new regulatory concerns regarding the receipt, storage and use of biologic products in patient therapies. The software provides hospitals with an automated environment that helps staff know at a glance what biologic products they have, what quantities exist, when they will expire, as well as if they were used and what patient received the biologic therapy.

Larry Grossman, VP, Product Management, said, "When addressing the requirements of our clients and prospects, we wanted to be sure to select a product that was easy to use and met all of their needs. Because of the sensitivity to temperature changes and extensive monitoring required to maintain an inventory of tissues, coupled with the success of Mediware in their blood bank business, we felt comfortable selecting BiologiCare. After careful evaluation, we really liked the modular approach of the BiologiCare product which enables users to select the features and functions that met their current business needs while maintaining the flexibility to add functionality over time. Fully integrating it in our ForSite2020 Surgery Management solution will make the interaction seamless and easy for our clients."

The effective tracking and tracing of transplantable materials has become a serious management problem with few viable solutions. A typical facility has a wide variety of transplantable tissues from a myriad of suppliers on hand at any given time. BiologiCare allows hospitals to understand their inventory, manage vendor qualifications, and re-order or re-distribute products through the view of a single screen. Further, in the event of a product contamination or recall, BiologiCare quarantines unused products and streamlines regulatory audits to understand potential risks to staff and patients.

Scalable and flexible, BiologiCare's multiple modules can be deployed as traditional software on the customer's network or as a remote hosted solution.
