The boards of directors of Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield and Huntsville Hospital have approved an affiliation agreement that will result in improved efficiencies and services for both hospitals. Under the affiliation agreement, Huntsville Hospital will partner with Helen Keller Hospital in providing services to the 185-bed hospital in Sheffield. Bill Anderson, president and CEO of Helen Keller Hospital, said the agreement will result in lowered costs for materials and maintenance contracts.

The emphasis will be on rehabilitation and orthopedic patients.
Gail Judd, director of York Hospital's perioperative services, shows the equipment that will be in operating rooms at a new hospital specializing in orthopedics and rehabilitation.
Suspended from the ceiling are adjustable operating lights, as well as a video display screen showing three sliced peppers positioned on the operating table to display the high quality of the picture.
You don't usually hear the word "ambiance" used to describe a hospital room.
But WellSpan vice president of operations Barbara Yarrish said that's one of the elements the company had in mind when planning out inpatient care at the new WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Center.
Yarrish was among several WellSpan officials who held a news conference Thursday announcing the new hospital, which will specialize in orthopedic and spine procedures, as well as rehabilitation for surgery patients and stroke victims.

Based on the integral role Jewish Hospital played in the landmark HeartMate II® Destination Therapy Clinical Trial, Jewish Hospital announced today that the HeartMate II Left Ventricular Assist System (LVAS) has received FDA approval for Destination Therapy (DT), or long-term treatment option, for patients suffering from advanced-stage heart failure who are not eligible for heart transplantation.
Jewish Hospital remains among select cardiac centers in the nation to offer the state-of-the-art therapy to these advanced heart failure patients for whom there is a critical care need.
